Steely Daniel have probably been one of my favourite 'discoveries' in this book so far. This is a peculiar statement to make, seeing as I've owned 'Aja' for the last ten years. I've clearly never given it the chance it deserves though, as every time I listen to something new by the band I'm impressed. This has arguably been my favourite so far.

290 Steely Dan - Countdown To Ecstasy

Ten years ago I bought 'Aja' by Steely Dan, an album I have probably played less than nine times. For some reason it's never my go to CD when choosing something to listen to. This is despite it being better than eight of the albums I often listen to (probably). Like 'Aja', this one has seven songs on it, the best of which clock in at just under six minutes, or just over five minutes. There are at least four brilliant songs on this album, and the other three are good too. This is definitely one for the shelves.

245. Steely Dan - Can't Buy a Thrill

Steely Dan are a clever band, whose intricate musical details rewards repeated listening. Unfortunately for them, this is not the way I work on this blog and they have one chance to impress. The album blends jazz and AOR, with complex arrangements and soft vocals. I bought 'Aja' years ago, but have never really given it a chance. After this album, I'll be revisiting it again to see what I've been missing all these years.
