288. Todd Rundgren - A Wizard, A Star

Rundgren wizard.png

Release Date: 1973
Label: Bearsville

You'd expect a nineteen track album to be a double-album wouldn't you? Well this isn't, clocking in just under an hour. The first half of the album contains a plethora of songs that all last for around sixty seconds. Imagine an Abbey Road medley with songs like Mean Mr Mustard/Polythene Pam throughout and you'll get a rough idea. There are some lovely moments across the album - Rundgren clearly knows how to write a good song - but it lacks consistency, and really needs editing.

256. Todd Rundgren - Something/Anything

Release Date: 1972
Label: Bearsville

Sometimes I will listen to an album from this book that I like only to find it would cost me over £30 to buy. This is one such album. 'Something/Anything' is a four-side, double LP in which Rundgren plays all the instuments on the first three sides, after which the rest of the band eventually turn up in time for side 4. Spotify only has the first half of the album, but I was impressed with what I heard - even the song Hot Chip sampled on one of their albums.
