By 1973 Elton John had established himself as one of the UK's biggest pop-stars, with a string of hit singles most artists would spent a fifteen year career trying to come up with. With this album he continued to share songwriting duties with Bernie Taupin - the latter writing the lyrics, Elton would set the music to. Having been slightly underwhelmed by 'Madman Across The Water', I'm glad to be able to tell you that this album is much better.

I've been looking forward to listening to this album for a few weeks, ever since I noticed it was due. Being familiar with his hits, I thought it would be interesting to hear if his albums are worth further exploration. This one, his fourth, is noteable for its lush strings and also contains the hit, 'Tiny Dancer'. On the whole, it lacked that oomph which would move it from 'buy if on sale' to 'essential'.
