I don't think we've had an Elvis Costello album in a while, and I'm surprised we've got one now. His previous albums were brilliant, but life has moved on since 1979 and I don't see the need for this one.

This is the second Elvis Costello album in the book, and also one I already own. The production is more polished (more money etc), but the songs are no less raw. This is the sound of a man who knows what he's doing.

One of the most talented songwriters of his generation, Elvis Costello was your unorthodox punk, managing to combine a gift for wordplay with the anger of youth. This, his debut album, was recorded in six four-hour sessions for £2,000. I already own this album too, so I have no need to listen again.
