516. Malcolm McLaren - Duck Rock

Release Date: 1983
Label: Charisma

Imagine Brian Epstein had lived and forged a career as a solo artist. Imagine he'd also been responsible for bringing a new genre of music to the British masses. You can't can you? Well, that's exactly what Malcolm McClaren has done. Part hip-hop, part skipping song, part GTA radio stations, it's an album that is borderline genius/novelty.

459. Peter Gabriel - Peter Gabriel 3 (Melt)

Peter Gabriel (self-titled album, 1980 - cover art).jpg

Release Date: 1980
Label: Charisma

At first I wasn't too impressed with this album, but the more I listened to it - the better it became until it finished with a gorgeous seven minute tribute called 'Biko'. It is better than his debut and as such, I think I want it.

388. Peter Gabriel - Peter Gabriel (1 - Car)

Peter Gabriel (self-titled album, 1977 - cover art).jpg

Release Date: 1977
Label: Charisma

In 1975 Peter Gabriel left Genesis following their tour to promote The Lamb Lies On Broadway. As the band carried on, with Phil Collins as their new lead singer, Peter Gabriel embarked on a solo career that would peak in 1986 with MTV favourite 'Sledgehammer'. This eponymous debut contains his early hit, the gorgeous 'Solisbury Hill'. It is another excellent album from what was clearly a great era for music.

280. Genesis - Selling England By The Pound

GenesisSellingEngland.jpg

Release Date: 1973
Label: Charisma

In the beginning Peter Gabriel created a band with friends from Charterhouse School. Now the band were talentless but enthusiastic. Psychedelia surrounded the skies and street, but the Spirit of Prog was hovering over the waters.
And Gabriel said, "I've written some new poems". And he had. The band saw the lyrics were good, and they wrote some sounds to go with the poems. They called the words "lyrics" and the sounds "music". And there was music, and there was lyrics - the first song.
And Gabriel said, "let us release four studio albums and then record what is arguably our best album, "Selling England by the Pound". And it was so.
