Before the Buzzcocks made any progress, co-founder Howard Devoto jumped ship to form Magazine. Already punk as a genre has reached its peak and the most talented bands are beginning to branch out from its limitiations. Magazine, having spent the preceeding twelve months writing and practicicing, were bypassed by punk and subsequently became part of the new post-punk scene. As a result, this album is a lot more adventurous and interesting than it perhaps would've been if it had been released a year or two earlier.
